Tub Filler Threads: NPT or NPSM for Code?<\/h2>\n<\/header>\n

A freestanding tub filler can look simple at first.
\nYet the thread type can cause real questions.
\nThis is especially true in Massachusetts.<\/p>\n

The common issue is NPT versus NPSM.
\nNPT means National Pipe Taper.
\nNPSM means National Pipe Straight Mechanical.
\nThese threads may screw together.
\nThat does not always mean they seal correctly.<\/p>\n

NPT threads are tapered.
\nThey seal as the threads tighten.
\nPipe dope or tape often helps that seal.
\nNPSM threads are straight.
\nThey usually need a gasket, washer, O-ring, or proper mating part.<\/p>\n

That difference matters on a tub filler.
\nA hidden leak can damage floors.
\nIt can also create a hard repair later.
\nA plumber may reject the connection for that reason.<\/p>\n
