There is water all over the floor around my water softener.<\/p>\n

I do not know if it is the only source.<\/p>\n

But I see water leaking from my timer.<\/p>\n

What would cause that?<\/p>\n

Answer<\/h2>\n

A water softener timer should not leak water. If water is coming from that area, the leak is usually inside the control valve, around a seal, piston, or spacer, or in the valve body.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The timer itself is usually an electric or mechanical part.<\/p>\n

It turns the softener on through each cycle.<\/p>\n

Water should stay inside the valve body.<\/p>\n

When water reaches the timer area, something has failed inside the head.<\/p>\n

Common Causes<\/h2>\n

1. Bad Seals or Spacers<\/h3>\n

Many softeners use seals and spacers inside the control valve.<\/p>\n

These parts can wear out over time.<\/p>\n

When they fail, water can leak into the timer housing.<\/p>\n

2. Cracked Control Valve Body<\/h3>\n

A cracked valve body can also cause a leak.<\/p>\n

This may happen from age, freezing, or pressure stress.<\/p>\n

If the body is cracked, replacement is often needed.<\/p>\n

3. Loose Screws or Cover Parts<\/h3>\n

Some leaks come from loose valve head screws.<\/p>\n

Do not overtighten them.<\/p>\n

Plastic parts can crack if too much force is used.<\/p>\n

4. High Water Pressure<\/h3>\n

High pressure can make weak seals leak faster.<\/p>\n
