Forcing silicone into a wet screw hole often fails.<\/p>\n

Silicone does not bond well to wet, dirty, or loose material.<\/p>\n

It can trap water inside the wall.<\/p>\n

That may cause more paint damage later.<\/p>\n

What To Check First<\/h2>\n

Start by drying the area fully.<\/p>\n

Use fans and leave the trim open.<\/p>\n

Do not close the wall while damp wood remains.<\/p>\n

Check for soft drywall, swollen trim, or mold spots.<\/p>\n

Next, inspect the shower door frame.<\/p>\n

Look at the lower screw hole closely.<\/p>\n

The installer may have drilled through tile, wallboard, or trim.<\/p>\n

If the hole was not sealed before the screw went in, water can follow the threads.<\/p>\n

How To Fix The Leak<\/h2>\n

  2. Let the hole dry completely.<\/li>\n
  3. Clean out old silicone and loose material.<\/li>\n

  6. Seal the screw head after it is tight.<\/li>\n
  7. Caulk only the correct shower door seams.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Use a sealant made for wet bathroom areas.<\/p>\n

    A mold-resistant silicone is often best near showers.<\/p>\n
