A stuck dishwasher shut-off valve is a common plumbing problem.
Hard water can build up inside the valve body.
Over time, the handle may stop turning.
Sometimes the valve gets stuck open.
That can make dishwasher service harder and less safe.
In this case, the hot dishwasher feed valve under the sink is stuck open.
The plan is to leave that old valve alone.
Then add a BrassCraft 1/4-turn shutoff closer to the dishwasher line.
This can work in some setups.
But the new valve must be installed the right way.
Question
Can I reuse the old 3/8-inch compression nut on a new shutoff valve?
Answer
It is usually not best to reuse an old compression nut and ferrule on a new shutoff valve.
The old ferrule is already crushed onto the tubing.
That ferrule may not seal well against a new valve body.
Even a small mismatch can cause a slow leak.
A slow leak under a sink can damage cabinets and flooring.
If the new BrassCraft valve has the same size and thread, it may tighten on.
Still, that does not mean it will seal well.
The safer choice is to use the new nut and ferrule.
If the old ferrule is stuck, use a ferrule puller.
Do not crush, bend, or scar the tubing.
If the pipe is damaged, cut back to clean tubing.
Then install the new compression valve as directed.

What About the Braided Dishwasher Hose?
A braided dishwasher hose is often a good upgrade.
It makes future service much easier.
Use a hose with the correct ends.
Many dishwasher hoses use 3/8-inch compression on the valve side.
The dishwasher side may use a different fitting.
Check the dishwasher inlet before buying parts.
Do not force a 3/8-inch compression onto a 1/2-inch fitting.
Thread types must match.
Pipe thread and compression thread are not the same.
If the dishwasher needs an elbow, use the correct dishwasher elbow.

Best Repair Plan
First, shut off the home water supply.
Then drain pressure from the hot side.
Remove the old connection carefully.
Install the new 1/4-turn valve with fresh compression parts.
Connect a new braided dishwasher supply hose.
Turn the water on slowly.
Check every joint with a dry paper towel.
Check again after one full dishwasher cycle.
If the old valve is not accessible, fix that too.
A dishwasher shutoff should be reachable.
That matters during leaks and service work.
